What is Aikido?
|
Aikido - The most popular translation is "the way of peace and harmony." Doesn't sound much like a martial art does it? Believe it or not, Aikido is an incredibly powerful way to neutralize attacks while maintaining a sense of calm and harmony within yourself.

|
Ai - Harmony, Love, Unity; to join or become one with. The word carries the feeling of the strength and power of natural forces.
Ki - Peace; Spirit; Universal Breath, life force or vital energy; the essence of universal creative energy.
Do - The Way or Path. "The Way" means to be one with the will of the Universe and embody its function.
Our Aikido stresses a nonviolent, noncompetitive alternative to traditional fighting techniques. It is effective, realistic and adaptable. The same principles practiced on the mat are easily translated to the world at large when handling both physical and nonphysical conflicts.
As a student you will quickly discover that Aikido nurtures the development of a calm mind, a coordinated body and an enhanced sense of self-esteem. While each person's experience in Aikido is different, the principles learned by everyone help each to be more fluid, subtle and powerful.
